How To Earn Money From Music In 2018

Posted on 21.06.18

You know, we know, in fact everyone knows music is your thing. If you live, breathe and even dream about making music; if you fall asleep humming your latest creation or cradling your guitar – it seems only right you earn money from music too. But, how can you? Well we, at  City Vocal Coach are going to let you in on a few secrets of how to do so in 2018.

1. Busking

Perform your artistry in public and for tips. While one heck of a tough way to live, it can actually be quite profitable. Consider it a great way to practice, hone your skills and learn to perform in public - even though not all of them will be watching or indeed listening to you all of the time.
Busking is multifaceted. Not only can it be an excellent way of introduce your music to people who may never have heard of you otherwise, but you can also earn more money selling your music, like CDs, at the end of your set.

2. YouTube

Do not underestimate the power that is the modern marvel YouTube. Earn money from music and (even better) from the comfort of your own home. What’s more, if you gain enough followers and regular viewers on this platform you could earn some serious money from it. Not to mention join that elite group of YouTube stars.

Anyone heard of Justin Bieber? Found off YouTube. Have you already created an account whilst reading this? We thought so.

3. Wedding gigs

If you’ve ever had to pay for a wedding, you know where we’re coming from. And for those of you who haven’t, no doubt you know weddings equal big bucks. Money, it seems, is thrown around here, there and everywhere. After all, there is a lot to cater for, including the entertainment. And the best way to be entertained? Music, of course. From DJ’s to fully-fledged bands, there’s no denying that playing wedding gigs are one of the easiest ways to earn money from music.

4. Spotify

People stream music. Constantly. So, put your music on Spotify and reap the awards of those streams. While Spotify keep a percentage of the total revenue, you’re still in for a chance to reap some financial rewards. Why not check out what how Spotify can help your music today?

5. Teach

Another lucrative way to earn money from music is to teach. Whether you’re fluent in playing the [insert instrument here] or a natural songbird – especially if you have carried out a course and/ or have had lessons yourself – teaching is perhaps the way to go. People want to learn from those who work professionally in music. And if you’re teaching in conjunction with your touring and writing music, you’ll be making money from music like a pro.

Even better, you don’t necessarily have to teach from your flat or studio, you can save even more money by doing online lessons. Skype is a great tool for teaching anyone in the world, and recorded lessons on YouTube again can be quite well-paid.

There are many ways to earn money from music in 2018, and however you decide to do it, know that you’re living the dream.
