City Vocal Coach Is Opening In Kent: Introducing Our New Coach

Posted on 10.09.20

We are incredibly excited to announce a new Kent-based branch of City Vocal Coach, which will be run from our brand-new studio in Whitstable.

The Kentish coast is such a hub for creatives. Not only is it a stone's throw from London, with an incredible art and music scene in both Margate and Whitstable, the coast also offers an atmosphere of tranquillity. So, naturally, it seemed like an exciting place for the new CVC venture.

As many of you reading this will already know, at City Vocal Coach, we provide expert singing and songwriting coaching from our studio in Hoxton, East London, and online via ZOOM.

One of the things that makes City Vocal Coach unique is that we don’t teach in a one-size-fits-all style, we make sure each lesson is bespoke and tailored-made for each individual students’ requirements. We work with dynamic, inspiring and sensitive teachers who have all worked professionally within the industry and teach intuitively using their own wealth of practical experience and knowledge.

As such, we’re thrilled to welcome Songwriter and Artist Polly Scattergood into the CVC family; she will be heading up our Kent branch, providing first-class songwriting and mentoring lessons.

Polly is a professional musician, songwriter and experienced songwriting coach who was dubbed by Radio 1's Rob Da Bank “the Kate Bush of the 21st Century”. This year Polly released her fourth studio album "In this moment" to widespread critical acclaim, charting at number 22 in the indie charts and receiving rave reviews across the board. Polly studied at the Brit School for Performing Arts, signed her first record deal at the age of 18, and has worked in the music industry ever since.

As an artist, she has been signed to Mute, EMI, and Warner Chappell, and Schubert Publishing, and as a songwriter, she has worked with the likes of Katie Melua, William Orbit, Jim Sclavunos (Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds/Sonic Youth) Jake Shillingford (My Life Story), Chris Liebing, Aubrey Nunn (Faithless), Fink, Dan Smith (Noisettes) and the Mercury-nominated MAPS.

Polly also runs her record label called Future Paradise. Outside of her solo career, Polly's passion lies in working with and mentoring others in the art of composition and songwriting. Inspiring songwriters of all levels and abilities to be creative, helping them flourish and achieve their goals, gain confidence, and use practical tools to aid them whilst writing songs.

A note from Polly:

"This year has been such a strange one for everyone, especially the creative industry. I’ve found myself thinking more and more about ways to use my time positively and give something back, pass on the joy that I get from writing and creating music. I have worked as a mentor and writer in London, I have also studied at The BRIT School, and guest lectured at various music universities, including Brighton Institute of Modern Music.

I am a big believer in learning through collaboration, I learn so much from the people I work with every day.  So, when Sam from City Vocal Coach approached me about opening a Kent branch, it was an opportunity that really excited me, especially given the quality of teachers and the CVC ethos. I am incredibly excited to work with students of all levels and abilities, from those with experience who may need a friendly pair of ears to listen and give feedback, to those who have never written before and would like to give it a try in a friendly and non-judgemental environment. I am all about building confidence and giving people practical tools to help them flourish. For anyone reading this thinking it’s something you would like to try, please get in touch, as I’d love to chat further with you!"
