How Travelling Can Develop Your Musical Horizons

Posted on 21.01.19

Travelling is an opportunity which is becoming more and more accessible to people of all ages. And quite rightly so. People set off on their travels to discover new places, meet new friends and to be educated by a whole new culture. Travelling can also develop your musical horizons, something which at City Vocal Coach we’re big advocates of. So, pull out that map, pour yourself a hot beverage and bring your computer near, as we’re about to inspire your next big trip…

1. It breaks your routines

Being in the same routine every day affects your creativity, and can - all too easily - get you stuck in a rut, musically. Travel, though, breaks these routines, forces you out of your comfort zone and challenges you in new and exciting ways. Which is a much better platform for inspiration and creativity to manifest. What’s more life experiences are excellent fuel to your songwriting and singing fire, and where better to gain those experiences than during a life-changing trip.

2. Discover new music styles and techniques

Music unites us worldwide, wherever you head to you’ll find music beating steadily away. Travel enables you to hear different music styles and techniques in various locations. Certain countries have become known for certain music styles, techniques, or a preferred genre etc. Travelling helps to explore your musical horizons by exposing you to a world rich in variety.

Sure, the internet and streaming music has enabled us to listen to whatever takes our fancy whenever we choose, but there’s nothing better than listening and appreciating music en route. They say travel educates you, even when it comes to the wonderful world of music.

3. Meeting new people, new collaborators

It’s inevitable, travel means you’ll meet new people. New people means new potential collaborators. If there’s one thing you can rely on wherever you venture to, it’s music, and with this, other musicians, artists and songwriters who can work with you to challenge, inspire and motivate you down new routes of creative exploration.

4. It teaches you you’re capable of so much

Travelling can throw up the unexpected. Anyone who has travelled knows that there’s no such thing as a trip without dilemmas. But what travelling does teach you, in the face of the unexpected, is how to cope. You learn – whether travelling solo, in a couple or with friends – that you are capable of so much.

As an artist, you’re probably already aware of how challenging the music industry is. Travel, though, can teach ways to cope and teach you that you’re able to deal with the challenging music industry when the going gets tough.

Travelling is one of the best treats you can indulge in. An experience that’ll keep on giving. But perhaps the best thing travel can do is develop your musical horizons. So, what are you waiting for? It’s time to jet off and broaden yours.
